We are presently looking for an experienced Engine Room Rating (oiler) to work on one of our ships which sails from Montreal, Qc to St. John’s, NL. Reporting to the Second Engineer, the Engine Room Rating assists Marine Engineers in operating, maintaining and repairing engines, machines and various equipment. In addition to ensuring a clean, safe work environment, he checks monitoring instruments linked to the ship’s mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
Minimum Certification required:
- Engine Room Rating (an asset)
- Engine room training program (or equivalent)
- MED STCW Safety
- Proficiency, Ship Personnel with Designated Security Duties
- Marine Medical Certificate
Skills:
- Good ability to work alone and with a team
- French and English
Working conditions:

Wheelsman - Regular
We are looking for a Wheelsman for one of our ships which sails from Montreal to St. John’s, NL. The Wheelsman is responsible for the maneuvering bar and executes the orders given by the Master or the Officer of the watch. He takes part in the maintenance and operations of the ship, such as cleaning and general maintenance of the ship, like painting, handling moorings and others, while ensuring the implementation of the quality and safety management system and the compliance with company’s policies and procedures.

- Bridge Watch Rating (Mandatory)

Second Engineer
The Second Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Engine Department personnel and operation and maintenance of machinery, in line with the Chief Engineer’s directions. The Second Engineer is responsible to the Chief Engineer for safe standards of operation in all departmental activities and is expected to perform his or her duties in accordance with the Canada Shipping Act and Regulations, Canada Labour Code, Company Policies and Procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
• Accepts directions from the Chief Engineer in terms of guidelines and objectives.
• Ensuring documentation of all maintenance carried out is kept up to date in the planned maintenance system and/or the vessel
• Supervising the safe, efficient and economical operation of the Engine Room Department. To meet these objectives s/he has authority over the junior Engineers and unlicensed personnel and is responsible for their training.
• Upkeep of all machinery and equipment for which the Engine Room Department is responsible.
• Maintenance and upkeep of the main propulsion machinery including fuel and lubricant piping and pumping systems, purifiers, steering gear, control systems, hydraulic systems, CPP systems, oily water separators and incinerators. S/He is also responsible for the testing, maintenance, and recording of ME jacket water chemical additives and for the collection, submission and recording of regular lube oil samples from all applicable Engine Room machinery.
• Purification of bunkers to maintain a sufficient supply of fuel to main and auxiliary machinery.
• Pumping of machinery bilge spaces, in accordance with the requirements of the Canadian Vessel Pollution Prevention and Dangerous Chemicals Regulations and Marpol 73/78, and as detailed in SM03 Engine Room Procedures.
• Maintaining records of Engine Room stores and spares expended, received, or on hand.
• Monitoring work performed and recorded under the Planned Maintenance Program to ensure an accurate record of work carried out on all machinery in the engine room, or in other isolated compartments and on deck.
• Security duties as per Vessel Security Plan.

Technical Superintendent
Job Summary:
We are hiring for a Technical Superintendent position to be located in either St. Catharines or Fort Lauderdale. The successful incumbent will manage the day-to-day technical operations in accordance with company policies and procedures as well as government regulations and customer expectations. These responsibilities include personal and operational safety and environmental protection. This position requires extensive domestic and/or international travel.
Key Responsibilities:
As the frontline management representative for the vessels assigned to them, the key responsibilities of the Technical Superintendent are as follows:
Vessel Operations
•Provides direct support to vessels.
•Maintains the safe and efficient operation of all vessel related functions.
•Conducts vessel visits and inspections, ensuring vessels are maintained and comply with all relevant standards, and attends vessel for any major breakdown.
•Monitors vessel efficiency and environmental performance.
•Ensure that established KPIs are being maintained.
•Continuous operation of assigned vessels, eliminating downtime due to breakdown.
•Projects and any other key responsibilities as required by the Director, Technical Operations.
Maintenance
•Oversees maintenance and repair of vessels.
•Monitors Planned Maintenance System (PMS) for execution of work.
•Monitors and develops maintenance specifications using Company standard procedures.
•Reviews all unplanned vessel downtime events of their assigned vessels and ensures that all are reported and attended to promptly.
•Prepares and supervises dry-docking and related surveys and inspections.
•Arranges and manages the work of shoreside contractors.
Quality, Health, Safety, Environment & Regulatory
•Liaises with external authorities including flag, class and port state regulatory bodies.
•Liaises with the QHSE and Marine departments closely with all vessel related concerns.
•Reviews the Shipboard Safety Management Committee meeting minutes.
•Lead or be a team member in carrying out internal audits on any Company vessel.
•Lead or be a team member in the investigation of any occurrence, accident or incident investigation.
Budgetary Control
•Prepares, monitors and controls budget for assigned vessels.
•Provides input to Fleet Plan.
•Coordinates efforts with both the Logistics and Purchasing departments to ensure the required supplies/equipment is delivered to the ship in the most efficient way possible.
People Management
•Works with the Fleet Personnel department for the purposes of scheduling Senior Officers and other crewing requirements and ensures assignments meet regulatory and company standards in terms of certification and experience.
•Input into vessel crewing and training requirements.
•Completes Performance Appraisals for Master’s and Chief Engineers.
Collaboration
•Liaises with the Sales & Traffic department to identify customer service requirements.
•Collaborates with both the Logistics and Purchasing departments to ensure the required supplies/equipment is delivered to the ship in the most efficient way possible.
•Reviews the Shipboard Safety Management Committee Meeting minutes.
•Participates as a member of Marine Emergency Response and the after-hours hotline.
•Any other duties or requirements as directed by the Director, Technical Operations.
Skills, Abilities and Experience:
•Post-secondary education in Maritime Studies, with a preference in Marine Engineering.
•Class One certificate of competency preferred.
•Minimum 1-3 years’ experience with responsibilities consistent with this position preferred.
•A proven track record of success in technical and managerial positions with relevant maritime organizations.
•Sound knowledge of quality and regulatory disciplines (ISM/ISO), OCIMF regulations as well as the ability to carry out investigations and analysis.
•Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
•Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), organization, planning and prioritization skills.
•Sound judgement, ability to balance business needs with the role of the employee advocate.
•A creative, enquiring and logical mind.
•Ability to analyze and interpret technical information and drawings.

Due to some planned retirements, we presently have an opening for a Captain for one of our Ships sailing to and from Montreal, Qc and St. John’s, NL. Reporting to the marine superintendent, the captain has overriding authority, and is responsible for the navigation, administration, management and security of the vessel, its cargo, pollution prevention and the crew.
Qualifications:
•Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience as a Captain;
•Master Mariner and/or Master Near Coastal certificate;
•Pilotage certificate, an asset
